Restart the Explorer.exe Process Correctly in Windows the Quick and Easy Way

We have previously written about how to safely restart the explorer.exe process in Windows (see our post, Restart the Explorer.exe Process Correctly in Windows). We have found a free, portable utility, called Restarter, that allows you to restart explorer.exe process. It also provides additional features such as restarting the Aero service, killing not responding tasks, and starting Task Manager, Calculator, and Notepad.
You can also easily and quickly log off, restart, and shut down your computer using Restarter.

Download Restarter from

Restarter does not need to be installed. To run it, simply unzip the .zip file you downloaded and double-click on the .exe file.
Running Restarter

The Restarter icon is added to the system tray and a message displays.

Right-click on the Restarter icon on the system tray to open the Restarter popup menu Select the Restart Explorer option to correctly restart the explorer.exe process. There are various other options available on the Restarter menu.

If you don’t want to have to open the system tray every time you want to start your program, you can take the shortcut out of the popup system tray and place it in the system tray on the Taskbar. To do this, open the system tray and click the Customize link.
Clicking Customize on the system tray
The Notification Area Icons screen on the Control Panel displays. Scroll down in the list of system tray icons until you find Restarter in the list of programs in the system tray. Select Show icon and notifications from the drop-down list to the right of the Restarter item.
Selecting Show icon and notifications
To close the Control Panel window, click OK.
Closing Control Panel
You can now access Restarter directly on the system tray without having to open it first.

You can also have Restarter start when Windows starts up by selecting the Add to Startup option on the Restarter menu.
