Desktop wallpaper is one of the first things computer novices learn to customize. It gives our computers are more personal feel. But, even the most beautiful wallpaper becomes stale after a while.
To prevent wallpaper boredom, software that rotates the wallpaper automatically is needed. WallCast is one such software, but with the added benefits of allowing friends to add photos to your wallpaper from thousands of miles away.
Wallcast creates a college of five photos from an online album, then rotates the photos at a specified interval, like every hour. To start, click the yellow Get Started button.
Enter your name, email address, time zone and a password to create an account. Click Create Account when finished.
Next, upload 5 photos to start your online album. Any five will do—and you can add to the collection later. Click Upload Photos after you have made your selections.
Next, invite your friends to add photos. Enter their email addresses and click Invite.
You will then be given a code—write it down or at least copy it to your clipboard. You will need it. Click Download, and install WebCast to your computer. Enter the code when prompted.
Once installed, your photo collage will appear as your wall paper, and WallCast’s icon will appear next to your system clock. Click the icon to refresh your wallpaper or change your settings.
As friends add to your online album, you will see their pictures appear on your wallpaper automatically. You can also add pictures from an iPhone by downloading the WallCast app from the App Store.
Overall, WallCast works great—but we would like to see some sort of background besides the wooden privacy fence. Hopefully more backgrounds will become available as the service emerges from Beta testing.
