Using Speech to Text on Android

While voice activated controls are nothing new to smart phones, Android has the most efficient and accurate voice controls of any modern smart phone UI. Not only can you access voice controls from the Android home screen, speech-to-text is available anywhere the virtual keyboard appears.
To have speech to search available on your home screen, add the Google Search Widget and tap on the Microphone icon.

For speech-to-text, navigate to an area where text is entered using the virtual keyboard. For example, enter the Messages app by tapping its icon.

Turn on USB Debugging for Android

ust as Windows Mobile was known for its “hackability” in the past, Android has become the OS that developers and hackers love to tinker with. Rooting has become a popular practice as well, which allows the user unlimited access to the phone’s core operating system. Edit the Android Dictionary

As you type on your Android phone, the keyboard will auto correct as you type. In the case of unrecognized words, the built in dictionary can save anything you type in its memory. This way, the next time you type a personal abbreviation or unrecognized word, it won’t try and autocorrect it.
If you mistakenly save a misspelled word, you can go back into the personal dictionary and edit or remove the word entirely. It will then be autocorrected to the word you specify.
To edit the personal dictionary, press the Home button to return to the device home screen.

Using the New Firefox Aurora and Beta Channels

For a long while now, if you are an early adopter of technology, Google Chrome was the place to be.  You could always download the current release version, but if you wanted to live on the edge a little bit, you could install the beta version.
The beta version offered features deemed not quite ready for the stable release version, so could likely crash more often, and was not recommended for production environments.  If you were even more gutsy, you could install the development version, which in effect was two releases away.  So, if the stable version was Chrome 9, the Beta version would be Chrome 10 and the Development version Chrome 11.

Firefox users wanting a rougher, new-features-the-second-they-arrive version, haven’t been so lucky.  You could always downoad Minefield, the in-progress beta version, but there wasn’t anything official.
Until now.  Mozilla, the organization behind Firefox (and the Thunderbird email/news client), recently unveiled its three-prong development model, which mirrors Chrome, quite closely, although it does use slightly different terminology.  The stable version will always be just that, Stable.  Currently Firefox is sitting at version 4.0.1, and if you download it from mozilla.org, that’s what you’ll get.  If you want the newer versions, however, read on.

Android Speech to Text

Arguably one of the most popular and powerful features on the Android platform is speech to text. While other platforms like iOS have apps that can recognize speech, Android has the only fully integrated speech to text solution that actually works well enough to be used on a regular basis.
The convenience of speech to text on Android comes by way of a small microphone icon on the software keyboard that is always present. Tapping on this microphone icon brings up a pop-up window that says Speak Now.

Remove Account from an Android Device

When you first turn on your Android device, you’ll be asked to set it up with a Google account. In addition, you can set it up with multiple other accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc.
These account may also sync data in the background and change your contacts, calendar and more. In order to prevent these accounts from changing data on your phone, or if you want to remove an account entirely, you can do this in the Settings app.
To remove or change an account, press the Home button to return to the Android home screen.
