The Bookmarks Toolbar is one of the most useful features in Firefox. It’s very similar to Internet Explorer’s Favorites Bar, and a feature many users miss when they migrate to Firefox.
This feature allows you to quickly access the websites you visit most often at the touch of a button. The Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar displays the bookmarks with the website’s graphic along with text which you can edit to your preference.
The Bookmarks Toolbar is turned on by default in Firefox. If it’s been turned off, you can turn it back on by clicking View, Toolbars and Bookmarks Toolbar.
To get started creating your toolbar, navigate to the website you’d like to bookmark. Select the Bookmarks menu, then click Bookmark this Page. From the drop-down menu, select Bookmarks Toolbar.
If you like, you can shorten the name of the bookmark in the Name field. You can also add comma separated tags. When you’re finished editing your bookmark, click Done. Repeat this step for each bookmark you’d like to add to the toolbar.
Once you’ve added a bookmark to the Firefox toolbar, you can edit at any time. Right click the bookmark, then select Properties. Make the desired changes, then click Save.
You can change the order of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar by clicking and dragging them to another spot. You can also add other toolbar items to the Bookmarks Toolbar. To do this, click View, Toolbars and Customize.
Using the drop-down menu at the bottom, select whether you’d like to see icons, icons and text, or just text. Keep in mind that changing these options will change all of your buttons in Firefox. Click and drag the toolbar items where you want them in the Bookmarks Toolbar. When you’ve added all the toolbar items you want, click Done.
You can also organize your Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar by clicking Bookmarks and Organize Bookmarks. Under All Bookmarks, select Bookmarks Toolbar. Under Organize, click New Bookmark to create another bookmark. Click Organize, then select New Folder to create a folder for grouping similar bookmarks in the toolbar.
Click and drag the desired bookmarks from the toolbar into the folder that best describes them. You can also expand the Bookmarks Menu to click and drag bookmarks from there into the toolbar. Or, if you prefer, you can use the cut, copy, paste and move options from the Organize menu to move your bookmarks around.
