In today’s fast and busy world, mobile phones have become necessity in life. Everyone needs mobile. Be it an engineer, a doctor, a house wife, a student or any other common man.

There are a wide verity of mobiles available in the market – with the cutting edge communication technologies, latest features, slim and fashionable handsets.
I know that too many options confuse the users a lot. And if you are buying your first mobile, then then it is really confusing.
Here is a simplified guide that can help you resolve your confusion…
Simple and Basic users:
If you are a user who is more interested in making and receiving calls or if you are a parent/grand parent, House Wife, A doctor, a small businessman, or some one who thinks the phones are meant to talk and nothing more then proceed …
A basic handset will suit you the best. These hand sets will meet all your basic necessities like:

1) you can make and receive calls
2) You can send and receive simple text messages.
3) These hand sets have some important features like: Address book, calculator, calender, alarm clock, Games.
4) Some hand sets offer few advanced features also like: FM radio, ability to configure ring tones

If you are a college student, a computer geek, software engineer or a corporate user then you need to consider following:
If you are one of the above, then you are probably more interested in the high end cutting edge communication technologies like: GPRS, EDGE, MMS, mobile browsing, taking pictures and videos, data sharing, run office application etc.
In these cases you will require a phone that run on mobile OS like Symbian or smart phone or Windows mobile.
Here, you should look if your handset has following features:
Connectivity: Should have EDGE / GPRS so that you can send / receive MMS. Should be equipped with Bluetooth and(or) IR.
Network: It should be a tri-band handset. These handsets operate at multiple frequencies and can be used anywhere in the world
Multimedia: Should be capable of playing videos, mp3, mp4. Should have FM radio also. You should definitely go for a handset with polyphonic ring tones.
Camera: A camera of at least 2.0 MP (mega pixels). The latest in Market has 8.0 but it is too much. A 2.0 MP is  good enough for most of the activities like taking pictures, videos etc.
Display: Look for TFT screens or Active Matrix. It is important for playing videos, games etc. Go for a bigger screen size because scrolling is painful.
Battery Life: The battery should last at least 1.5 – 2 Days.
Advanced features: You could also go for a handset equipped with a GPS that will help you in navigation.
Depending upon your usage, you can also go for a handset that can connect to Wifi networks. Thus making your browsing cost free and easy.
